Does Xanax / Klonopin Cause Acne?

Xanax is a benzodiazepine, with listed side effects that include severe allergic reactions, seizures, and red, swollen blistered, or peeling skin, but not acne.

Daily Xanax use is more likely to help acne related skin problems than it is to cause them. Acne is highly correlated with sleep deprivation and stress. Xanax most often leads to decreased stress and increased sleep, albeit often not REM and deep sleep. On the other hand, Xanax is still a prescription drug that affects body chemistry. It is not out of the question that this could affect the circadian rhythm or other vital system and lead the skin to produce extra sebum, overreact to harmless bacteria, or generate acne in another manner.

  1. so I buy my xanax in mexico… They are the white “bars”. I take about half a quarter a day every other day for the past 2 yrs. I feel as if my skin is becoming thinner… Like old looking. But very clear. I also have very healthy eating habits such as juicing every morning. Could the xanax be aging me prematurely?
