  1. I was prescribed fexofenadine (in some countries sold as Allegra) for a mild redness/irritation around my eyes brought about by allergies.
What followed was an oset of acne, which wouldn’t be out of place on a greasy teenager’s face.

I’ve occassionally had the odd spot, but I’m 32 and I never had acne even when I was a teenager.

My lifestyle/ diet has not changed and I can only put this reaction down to the meds, which I have today stopped taking. Really hope to get my face back very soon!

  2. I recently took Allegra (children dosage) over a 2 day period. I experienced an extreme breakout of painful, ugly acne. A week later I still have the scabs and redness. I’m 58 yo and way past menopause. This has been a very disturbing experience.

  3. 2 weeks ago, I started taking 2, 180mg Allegra tablets per day for angiodema. My acne is clearing dramatically. I’m 43 and haven’t had a clear skin day in about 8 years. Its been many years since I gave up on dermatologists. I’ve been prescribed every antibiotic that exists and they all make me violently ill as soon as they “go systemic”. Anything topical that contains benzoyl peroxide causes severe swelling, pain, redness and itching upon the first use. Accutane was suggested to me, but health insurance barriers have kept me from trying that.

  4. I haven’t broken out like this in a long time. I am even on major acne meds and was fine and after 2 days of being on 24 hour Allegra I have a massive cystic pimple coming in with others that aren’t as big (all cystic) and am breaking out in blackheads?? I never have had that. I am getting off of this asap. I would rather have a sinus infection than painful acne. This is ridiculous.

  5. I was prescribed fexofenadine for hayfever. Was previously taking citrizine but found I would need to take two when the prescribed dose was one. The doctor gave me a months supply to trial. During the month I started to have really bad breakouts which were painful and leaving scars. Initially I didn’t think it was the fexofenadine but I ran out of tablets and had tk revert back to the citrizine for the last 2 weeks and noticed my skin has dramatically calmed down. Ironically I just collected a 2 months supply of fexofenadine from the chemist today. And it had just clicked this is the only thing different I have been taking. Needless to say I won’t be taking them now.

  6. I have been horrible acne lately. I’ve been taking Allegra for 10 years or more. I had to stop all medication because I had stomach virus. My acne started getting better. All these years it’s been the Allegra.

  7. About 2 weeks ago I started taking Allegra 24hr pills for my allergy symptoms. My skin has cleared up ever since. I’m 22 years old and have had consistent acne since I was a teenager. I know I had an allergy to gluten but even when I avoided it completely, my skin never cleared up. Can someone explain this?

  8. I too have been proscribed fexofenadine HCl for my ringworms treatment. After taking the medication for around 15days. I have got many pimples on my shoulders, back and slowly it came on my face too.. can someone tell me when it will go now?

  9. I’m 20 years old, always had good skin, but I’ve been taking Fexofenadine for a month and I’m suddenly experiencing horrible acne on my face.

  10. I have been taking 24 hour Allegra for almost 2 months now and within a couple days of starting, I got a monster zit, then a couple days later another monster zit appeared. About every 1-2 days since, I get a new large, painful, scarring zit. I have been trying to figure out why, as I usually only get a zit near my period and never this painful and severe. I realized a week ago, that the time I started and the acne were about the same. I was going to finish the rest of my Allegra bottle, but I’m stopping tonight. As far as the allergies go, my tests have all been negative for environmental, seasonal, and food allergies; from both blood and skin tests. The Allegra was prescribed for “irritations” to see if the post-nasal drip that keeps me from sleeping at night would go away. So far, no. So cutting out the Allegra is not really a huge loss for me.

  12. I have started taking the medication and seen a dramatic improvement to my skin. I suffer from occasional bouts of hormonal cystic acne and have done my entire life. . Since taking the medication, my skin has pretty much entirely cleared up. I have only had one/two new spots in a month which is unheard of for me particularly as usually around my period, the skin on my face, chest and back gets very bad. I only take one when I feel my hayfever is particularly bad which is, at the moment, maybe 3/4 times a week. I take one 120mg tablet.

  13. I took Allegra for 4 days and have broken out so bad my face looks like a Christmas tree. I have never suffered from acne in my life. I’m 40 years old. The acne hurts they are big painful bumps. Sometimea they burn.
