Is hot yoga good for your skin? You would think so. But that might not be the case.
Almost all exercise is good for the skin. It makes a person healthier, boosts the immune system, and improves sleep quality. However, it’s hard not to notice the bad skin that runs rampant in yoga classes – especially hot yoga classes.
In hot yoga, the body sweats for 90 straight minutes. Which can be good — it’s like a mini-facial. But it can be bad, because all that hot air and sweating isn’t just causing your body to excrete existing oil. It’s actually causing it to produce more oil. Extra oil can mean more skin problems.
So my advice is, if you have problem skin and yoga seems to aggravate it, stick to unheated yoga. Hot yoga might get you ripped, but it can wreak havoc on your skin. And working out for 90 minutes/day while dehydrating your muscles probably isn’t the best thing for you in the long run.
